What is Microdermabrasion?
Dermabrasion was developed in Italy by physicians Marini and Lou Brutto. The rejuvenation effects were so stunning that a refined version of the technique was developed into what we know today as Microdermabrasion.
Another name for Microdermabrasion is partial skin exfoliation because it removes the top layer of the skin.
Microdermabrasion is also referred to as particle resurfacing, power peel, derma-peel or Parisian peel.
How does it work?
Microdermabrasion helps to erase superficial lines and wrinkles, acne, scarring, sun damage, hyperpigmentation. It helps to unclog pores and reduce stretch marks. It is best defined as a removal of the top layer of the skin on the face or on the body which can be done manually or mechanically.
Professional microdermabrasion treatments are done in spas, aesthetics salons or doctors offices.
The more outdated systems use crystals which are made of aluminum oxide. However, with increasing suspicion of a link between aluminum and Alzheimer’s Disease, the microdermabrasion crystals are no longer the best choice. Many places are now using Diamond systems which make the treatments a lot more comfortable for the client and it is a safe and gentle method that produces great results. The skin may be slightly red for a short period of time afterwards, but there’s no recovery time, no down time or healing time needed afterwards.
The number of treatments required vary from 6 – 12 due to the fact that microdermabrasion exfoliates only a thin layer of the skin. It will also depend on the condition your skin is in and what results you are looking for.
