Beauty Gives Back – The Fight Against Cancer

We are a ‘feel good’ industry – colourful, sexy and fun. We use colour to make women look good and feel better every day, so no one knows more about how women feel about themselves than we do. We count over 95% of Canadian women as customers in their lifetime. And we cannot, and will not, abandon those same women when they are fighting for their lives against cancer.

THEREFORE, the mandate of BEAUTY GIVES BACK is clear, real and relevant: We dedicate ourselves to treating the emotional fallout from cancer. Using the sum total of our knowledge, experience, expertise and resources, we do what women trust and rely on us to do – to make them feel human again in the face of the ravages of cancer and its treatment. In doing so, we help restore their confidence, and the confidence of those around them, to continue fighting with conviction and living with dignity.

For a woman diagnosed with cancer, fear and uncertainty become constant companions. But the ravages of cancer treatment bring unexpected visitors – the pity of friends, the anxiety of loved ones, and the shock of passers by – all painted clearly on passing faces and experienced every moment of every day.

In this poignant and emotional film, we meet Dionne Warner, an 8-time cancer survivor and we metaphorically experience a bit of her struggle with the Cancer Blues – a term for the emotional distress caused by cancer and its treatment. Not only do we get a taste of how difficult it is for her to face the world everyday wearing her illness ‘on her sleeve’, but also how important it can be to gain back a bit of control through the techniques taught in the free workshops offered by the Look Good Feel Better program.

Do Your Best, Do What it Takes and You Will Succeed

Do Your Best Every Day

Make a conscious decision to do your best in everything and you will you attempt that will help you to reach the heights of success. As the old saying goes:

How You Do Anything Is How You Do Everything

Always do more than you’re supposed to do. Do a little more than average and from that point on your progress will multiply itself out of all proportion according to the effort you put in. Just do a little more each day than you think you can do. There is always a best way of doing things to get the job done. Think about it before you do it. Strategize. True success comes from being successful in the little things.

Your Attitude Matters

You can respond positively or negatively to any situation. Your attitude is not determined by circumstances, but by how you respond to your circumstances. Any challenge facing you is not as important as your attitude towards it. It’s how you react to challenges and events that determines your attitude.

Is The Glass Half Full Or Half Empty?

There is a good side to every situation.

View your problems as opportunities. You cannot have success without any failures. Any experience can be transformed into something of value. Everything depends on the way you look at things. What are stumbling blocks and defeat before they can be stepping stones to victory if you remain determined. In every adversity lies the seed of advancement, growth and success. In every defeat there is a lesson showing you how to win the next time.

The glass is half full.

YOU CAN RISE ABOVE REALITY

Courage is the power to face your difficulties. It comes from the reserves of your mind that are more powerful then any of your outside circumstances. When you recognize that you are bigger than your problems, you gain the courage necessary to overcome anything. Your obstacles will look large or small to you, depending if the glass is half full or half empty.

Courage gives you the ability to rise above reality.

You can decide to be bigger than your problem and overcome them.

Own It – No Matter What

It’s time to silence that voice inside your head that says you’re not good enough.

It’s time to start making positive, healthy choices and focus on the things we can change instead of the things we can’t. Most women hate some part of their bodies, but there’s nothing you can do about it, so own it, be proud of it. Dress in a way that hides your imperfections, but be proud of who you are and know that you are not alone.

It’s time for a change, it’s time to Own It*.

Did you know that 97% of women have at least one “I hate my body” moment every day?

Do YOU Have a Vision?

Create a Visual Vision Like a King!

You’ve heard Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s incredible I Have a Dream speech (or, at least, part of it).

What’s amazing is that 250,000 people from across the country descended on the Mall in Washington, D.C., on August 28, 1963, to hear Dr. King deliver that historic speech. There was no World Wide Web to check the date or social media blasts to rally the crowd, yet 250,000 showed up at the right place and the right time. How is that possible?

They walked, took the bus, or drove to Washington D.C. because they believed what Dr. King believed. They made the trek because Dr. King painted a vision of an America that was far better than what it was like in 1963 and one that they individually believed in.

Visions Must Have Substance

You see, a vision is an image in your mind of a world that does not yet exist. In order for the vision to be strong enough to overcome adversity, it must contain tangible results of what the world would look like if you spent your time in pursuit of your purpose…

True Beauty Is Timeless

Ari Seth Cohen, photographer and self-proclaimed ’old lady expert’, appreciates ’advanced’ beauty.

He finds his models — elegant older ladies — on the streets of New York. The youngest of them is 59 and the oldest is 102 years old. They know that true beauty is timeless, and taste and style only get more sophisticated over the years.

These women don’t hide their age, don’t dye their gray hair or waste money on plastic surgery. They go through life with their heads held high, and it’s hard to look away.
