Parabens have been used for almost 70 years and may actually be harmful to our health.
Parabens are the most widely used preservatives in personal care products, because they stop fungus, bacteria and other microbes from growing in your creams, makeup, cosmetics, mascaras, shaving gels, personal lubricants, spray tanning solutions, toothpastes, pharmaceutical products, especially in the bathroom where it’s moist and warm. They are also used as food additives.
Parabens are chemicals with estrogen-like properties, and estrogen is one of the hormones involved in the development of breast cancer.
Here are some of the names Parabens are called.
Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Propylparaben, Butylparaben, Isobutylparaben, E216
One concern is that the estrogen-mimicking aspect of parabens may be a factor in the increase of early puberty in girls.
Some of the questions are:
Is the rising of breast cancer partly linked to parabens. which can to an extend mimic estrogen?
Are declining sperm counts and the increase of male breast cancer and testicular cancer related to the fact that these chemicals can be absorbed into our skin, and can potentially disrupt our endocrine systems?
Better be safe than sorry, read the labels on the stuff you buy!
As for me, I don’t want to use any products that contain any kind of parabens.
